| 30 May 1894 There is a report of the crime in the Western Mail Wednesday 30 May 1894 p.8 col.7: A BAD CARDIFF BOY. SENT TO A REFORMATORY. The tempting display of sweets in the window of Mr. William Frank at 27, Castle- street, has been sufficient to cause the downfall of a: little twelve year old Welsh lad, named David Davies. On Monday afternoon with another lad David entered the shop and, although watched by the shop assistant, he carried off a quantity of butterscotch and almond toffee. He was followed and taken into custody, and on Tuesday morning appeared before the stipendiary, Mr. T. W. Lewis, and Mr. E. Spencer, at Cardiff Police-court. - Mr. Davies gave his son a bad character, and said he had already been charged twice, once with stealing seven microscopes. - The Stipendiary, on hearing this, ordered the lad to be kept in a reformatory for five years. | |
