| 23 September 1898 The remand hearing for the crime that sent him to Saltley was reported in the Western Mail Friday 23 September 1898 p.7 col.6: ROUND THE POLICE-COURTS. CARDIFF. "FOUND IT ON THE SEAT." Frederick Judd is an undersized boy of twelve, and when the great military drama. "Proof," was in full swing at the Grand Theatre on Wednesday night, he, it is alleged, created a little scene on his own account. Judd was in the pit, and the charge against him at Cardiff Police-court to-day was that he abstracted from the pocket of Annie Finn 6d. in silver, 4d. in copper, and a foreign coin. On being arrested the lad said he "found it on the seat." - The Magistrates (Alderman Ebenezer Beavan, Alderman Trounce, and Dr. James Mullin were unable to complete the case in the absence of the prosecutrix. and Inspector Durston asked for a remand for a week, which was granted. Meanwhile. Judd is to be located in the workhouse; Finn will be asked attend and give evidence at the hearing. | |
