Circumstances Leading to Death (Normally from War Diary)

The information regarding Charles's death is conflicting with some saying he died of wounds and another that he was killed in action.
His CWGC record states that he died on 19 Apr 1917 but within that record a grave registration report records his death as being on 17 Apr 1917.

If indeed he was killed in action then the battalion war diary does not list any casualties for the 19 April but does list 18 other ranks being killed and 40 other ranks being wounded on the 17th April and on day in which they took part in an attack on enemy lines at Epehy.
