11 December 1878 There is a short report of the crime in the Wolverhampton Express and Star Wednesday 11 December 1878 p.3 col.3: John Davies (14), shopboy, in the employ of William Henwood, clothier, Church-street [Bilston], was brought up in custody charged with stealing 17s. from a till in his master's shop It appeared that the prisoner had taken the money and spent It in the neighbourhood of Birmingham. He had been previously punished for theft, and Mr. Spooner committed him for a month's hard labour, end five years in a reformatory.
