The war diary for the period 18th to 22nd August 1917 is transcribed below.

Dambre / Canal Bank 18th Aug 1917: C & D Coys moved up to C.22.g and occupied the old German Line Trench

Dambre / Canal Bank 19th Aug 1917: Dispositions remained as yesterday

Dambre / Canal Bank 20th Aug 1917: At night A&B Coys relieved C&D who came back to Canal Bank

Dambre / Canal Bank 21st Aug 1917: C&D Coys moved up during the night to a taped positions NE of St. Julien from C.12.d.2.0 to C.12.c.6.4 and in conjunction with the 5th R War R and battalions of the 184th Bde on the right and the 144th on the left, prepared to attack the enemy positions Winnipeg - Springfield line.

Dambre / Canal Bank 22nd Aug 1917: At 4.45am the attack started C Coy of right with Spot Farm as their objective, D Coy on the left with Springfield Farm as their objective. The tanks moved forward and were to signal the infantry to rush the concrete blockhouses when the tanks had dealt with them. Owing to the bad state of the ground all the tanks got ditched. The delay gave the enemy time to recover and our attack was not able to take its objectives. A series of posts established in shell holes near up to the block houses. END
