William is listed as being killed in action on 6th July 1917. The single, and brief, 10th Battalion war diary covering the period 2nd to 10th July 1917 is transcribed below.

Oostaverne - 2nd to 10th Jul 1917: Battalion moved into the line [at] Oostaverne. The Battalion took part in operations which succeeded in slightly advancing our line. 

Casaulties Capt. G Cass, 2/Lt's C. Haig Bovey, Dellow & H.J. Luckman wounded. Other ranks - Killed 18 and wounded 36.
