Enlistment

From his service number we believe that Ernest enlisted in the Royal Warwickshire Regiment sometime between 8th June 1910 when service # 1650 was issued and the 4th February 1911 when service # 1770 was issued. Click here for the source of that information.

Circumstances Leading to Death (Normally from War Diary)           

Ernest is listed as dying of wounds on 2 Sep 1915 at the 1st Casualty Clearing Station (CCS) at Chocques. The war diary does not help identify when Ernest was wounded but given that he was still in the CCS at Choques we believe that he was wounded a few days before he died. Les Caudrons - 28-8-15: In billets. The Battalion paraded at 4pm and marched to Noyelles and took over GHQ lines in 1st Division Area. Strength Officers 23 & OR 955

Noyelles - 29-8-15: GHQ Lines. The Battalion paraded in two parties at 7.15 and 10.30 for digging under orders of 54th Corps. Casualties Other Ranks Killed 2  Wounded 9

Noyelles - 30-8-15: GHQ Lines. Same as previous day. Casualties Officers Wounded 1 Other Ranks 1

Noyelles - 31-8-15: GHQ Line. On conclusion of work, companies marched independently to Labourse and billetted for the night.

Labourse - 1-9-15: In billetts. The battalion paraded at 4pm and marched to Manqueville and billetted for the night. Strength Officers 24 & O Ranks 936.

Manqueville - 2-9-15: In billetts Battalion paraded at 5.30pm and marched to billetts at Busnette. END
