Ernest is listed as being killed in action on 10 Nov 1916. The 10th Battalion war diary entry for that day is transcribed below along with a report from the Warwick Advertiser dated 25 Nov 1916.

Ovillers Post - Front Line - 10.11.16: Work on trenches continued. Inter company relief in evening hindered by considerable by enemy shelling.

Front Line: D Coy (right) & C Coys (R.21.a.0.6 - r.20.a.75.20)
Support: B Coy
Reserve: A Coy

Casualties: Killed 2 Wounded 5. END

Warwick Advertiser Report

The death of Pte Ernest George Yeomans, Royal Warwickshire Regiment, formerly a printer’s apprentice at the Advertiser office, son of Mr. G. Yeomans, of Joyce Pool, Warwick, is reported by Lance-Corporal A. Harvey, of the same battalion, in a letter to his father, Mr. E. Harvey of 3 North Rock.

Corpl Harvey writes “Young Yeomans of Joyce Pool has been killed. He was in the same trench as me. You might tell his father, if you see him, that he died without any pain. A piece of shell, a whiz-bang, hit him in the forehead and he died instantly. We put a cross on his grave”

Pte. Yeomans was a young fellow who was much liked by all who knew him for his frank and kind disposition. He was a leading member of Warwick Scouts.
