Circumstances of Death

Herbert served with the Australian Infantry as Robert Prince Powell at Gallipoli in Jan 1916 and later in France where he was taken prisoner on 12 Apr 1918. He survived the remainder of the war at the Giessen POW Camp before being repatriated on 14 Dec 1918. He left the army on 18 Jan 1919 and returned to his home in Australia.

He never lived in Dunchurch but his father, also Herbert, moved to Dunchurch sometime in 1909 and became the local GP. His parents placed a plaque in his memory inside St. Peter's Church. He does not have an official War Grave as he died after the war of Flu which was not related to his service.

Herbert was awarded the 1914-15 Star but I am unable to find a record of him in Theatre before 9 Jan 1916.

Herbert died of Influenza on 19 Jul 1919 in Ouirindi, New South Wales.
