Evan is listed as dying of his wounds in the field on 22 Apr 1917. The brief 50th Brigade war diary entry for that day (transcribed below) shows that the Brigade were bombarded by the enemy with gas shells. Near Fampoux 22 April 1917: Batteries very heavily shelled in the early hours of this morning by gas shells for about 7 hours and again during the forenoon with 5.9 & 4.2. Batteries had many casualties, wounded and gassed. END |
