Circumstances Leading to Death (Normally from War Diary)           

Percy was killed in action whilst on a working party on Westhoek Ridge. The war diary entry for the day [12 Ferb 1918] states "Working parties provided for foward area [Westhoek Ridge] & specialist training conducted in camp [Devonshire Camp east of Busseboom] The following casualties on the working party killed 3 OR wounded 4 OR". Percy was one of those killed.

Circumstances Leading to Death (Normally from War Diary)           

The war diary for 9 Oct 1917 states Tower Hamlets [near Gheruveld] 5.20am 'attack by our troops on left of our sector, simultaneous the three batts in front line (112th Bde) with close objectives. In the event of enemy retiring [11th] battalion to move forward (SE direction) by bounds for about 1500 yards by means of fighting patrols (4 platoons full strength) no development'.
 
5.45 am "Intense artillery retaliatory bombardment lasting 24 hours. Points most shelled BN HQ. RAP. BASSEVILLBEEK to DUMBARTON DUMP"
 
Albert was most likely killed during the bombardment noted above. Alberts brother Joseph was also killed during these actions.
 
Private Frank Silverster of Alderminster was also killed on this day.

Circumstances of Death

Harry was originally reported missing in action on 24 Mar 1918 and his death was later accepted as having been on that date. It took some time for his death to be officially confirmed and in the meantime Harry's father made at least two requests for information to the Red Cross Prisoner of War department in August and October 1918. 

The war diary for the 24th March 1918 is transcribed below:

Clery - 24/3/1918: Line heavily attacked at 9.0am, orders received for withdrawal received 10am. Enemy having punctured the line further north. Transport moved 5am to Suzanne arriving 8.30am. Mr Guthrie & party arrived 3.30pm. Remainder of 3 Coys now 21 Div RE Coy moved off at 5pm for Bray arriving a L.13.cx at 11.0pm. Camped alongside road. END

No mention is made of casualties.

Circumstances of Death

Maurice (aka Morris) is listed as dying on 8 Apr 1917. His death certicate (see below) shows that he died of Scarlett Fever (3 days) at the Old Sarum Isolation Hospital, Stratford sub Castle, Wiltshire.

Maurice had been training on Salisbury Plain when he fell ill.
