Henry is listed as being killed in action on 7th November 1917. The 12th Battalion war diary entries for the period 6th to 8th November are transcribed below. Sterling Tunnel – 6 Nov 1917: Battalion in trenches etc at Tor Tot & Sterling Tunnel less one Coy who had gone forward to Cameron Covert. Battalion moved forward about 11am and relieved 1/E Surrey Regt in left sector Veldhoek & Tower with Bn HQ in Jerk House. Enemy’s artillery was very active during the morning and several casualties occurred during relief. Veldhoek Front Line – 7 Nov 1917: Battalion in Front Line, usual artillery activity during the day, nothing of importance to report. 20 OR casualties during the day. The battalion was relieved on night of 7th & 8th Nov by 14th Bn Royal Warwickshire Regt, 13th Infantry Brigade and withdrew to huts and shelter in Bedford House [Ypres] Bedford House – 8 Nov 1917: Battalion in huts and shelter in Bedford House. Bn cleaning up and inspection of arms etc. |
