Frederick is listed as dying of wounds on 9 Sep 1914 at No 1 CCS at Coulommiers. We believe that Frederick was wounded on 8 Sep 1914 and the war diary for the 8th & 9th Sep 1914 is transcribed below. Tuesday Sept 8 - Action of Le Tretoire (Boitron): The brigade attacked and after considerable opposition the village gained (sic). A general pursuit followed and the enemy appeared to suffer considerably from artillery fire. Towards evening the Battn had a sharp engagement with a number of machine guns which their infantry escort attempted to break through and about 70 Germans & 7 machine guns with 8 bombers were captured. Casualties:- Capt Hardy, Lt Loyd wounded. Other ranks 3 killed and 7 wounded all in No 1 Coy. The Battalion bivoucked at Petit Villiers. Tuesday Sept 9: Marched at 1.25pm & crossing Le Marne at Charly reached bivouacs at Villiers sur Marne at 10pm. END |

- In Frederick's Army will he left his effects to Hannah Sammons
- In 1901 Frederick, aged 7, was boarding in Ashow with George Littleton and George's daughter Hannah Sammons
- We suspect that Frederick was given up for adoption soon after his birth and was eventually adopted by John and Hannan Sammons who had no children of their own. Frederick's Register of Effects state that his John Sammons was his step father
