Circumstances Leading to Death (Normally from War Diary)

The day before George was killed the battalion and others in their Brigade had attacked and captured German positions near Hull's Farm just to the north of Ypres. The successfully fought off counter attacks. The following day George was one of the 3 men killed by a heavy enemy artillery barrage of the captured positions. 13 other men were wounded. The battalion though held onto the postion until they were relieved on the 10th July.
