Circumstances Leading to Death (Normally from War Diary)

The Battalion spent 9 days in the trenches at Auchonvillers and had been shelled and gassed on a daily basis. The war diary suggests that it was during their relief in the lines by three other battalions that John was one of 4 men killed or wounded.
