Circumstances Leading to Death (Normally from War Diary)
| George's pension card states that he died of "bomb wounds received during enemy air raids" on the 19th or 20th May 1918. At that time the battalion war diary places them away from the front lines in a camp at Sarry. However there was a bombing raid on Etaples, home to numerous military hospitals but that was in France and he is remembered in Belgium on the Tyne Cot Memorial which is 140km from Etaples.
