Circumstances of Death

Henry is listed as being killed in action on 24th April 1918. The 1st Battalion war diary entries for the period 23rd to 27th April are transcribed below.

Villers Bretonneux - 23 April 1918: The Brigade was relieved by 23rd Brigade. The Battalion less C & D Coys relieved by 2/Devons Regt who remained under orders of 23rd Brigade for tactical purposes. Remainder of Bn moved back to Division Reserve in Bois de L’Abbe.

Casualties: 5 OR’s wounded

Bois de L’Abbe – 24 April 1918: As above

Bois de L’Abbe – 25 April 1918: As above – Casualties [24/25th] 5 Officers wounded, 90 OR’s wounded; 15 killed.
50 OR’s joined the Battalion.

Bois de Blangy – 26 April 1918: Battalion relieved by 52 Australian Brigade and moved back to Corps Reserve in Bois de Blangy. 2 Officer & 3 OR's killed; 1 Officer & 10 OR's wounded. 1 Officer joined the Battalion.

Camon - 27 April 1918: Battalion moved back to billets in Camon.
