Circumstances of Death

Reuben is listed as being killed in action on either 22nd or 23rd May 1918. The War Graves Commission website states 22nd but their own Grave Registration document states 23rd. The 108th Brigade war diary entries covering the period 19th to 25th May are transcribed below.

Mericourt L’Abbe - 19 May 1918: A/Major D.A. Buchan posted to command D/108 Brigade RFA 18/5/1918.

During May the Brigade came under the 4th Australian Division and on the night of 19th/20th & supported the successful attack on and capture of Ville-sur-Ancre. The Brigade also supported several successful minor operations whilst in these positions.

Casualties:
Killed 2 other ranks.
Died of Wounds: 2/Lt A.E. Young & 2/Lt A Carmichel at OP 21/5/18 & 1 O.R.
Wounded: Capt. E.D.L. Saunders 17/5/1918. 2/Lt W Adkin 12/5/18 & 17 Other Ranks
Gassed: 2 O.R.
Accidentally Injured 1 O.R.

Pont Noyelles - 22 to 25 May 1918: The Brigade came out of the line and were in Mobile Reserve
