Circumstances of Death

Percy died of septicaemia at the King George Military Hospital, Stamford Street, London on 16 July 1918 following his involvement in a minor motor vehicle accident on 9 July 1918. A report of the incident is contained in his service record and is transcribed below.

REPORT CONCERNING THE DEATH OF M/300055 PRIVATE DRAYCOTT

Private Draycott was injured by a motor car driven by Sergeant Raymond on 9.7.18.

The injury consisted of a slight cut requiring 2/3 stitches. The man was sent to St. George’s Hospital and returned to his unit.

The next day he was seen by the Medical Officer and sent to the King George’s Hospital where apparently Septicaemia set in and he died on 16.7.1918.

An inquest was held at Lambeth when Sergeant Raymond (the driver of the car) was exonerated from all blame.
