William was discharged from the Army on 10 Feb 1915 as "unlikely to become an efficient soldier". He was given a Silver Badge number 103218 on 29 Dec 1916. In his discharge papers he said his intended residential address was to be 224 Moncar Street, Glasgow. On the 8 Sep 1922 William died at the Hospital of St. Cross, Rugby of Cerebellar (Brain) Abscess and Middle Ear Supperation. In researching these illnesses we found a paper which mentions research carried out in Glasgow in relation to Cerebellar Abscess's by Sir William Macewen who in 1916 set up a Hospital in Glasgow for soldiers and was a pioneer in modern brain surgery, and we are therefore speculating that that is the reason why William stated that he was going to live in Glasgow after his discharge. |
