Circumstances Leading to Death (Normally from War Diary)
It is not known on which day John received the wounds that he eventually succumbed to but in the days leading up to his death on 5 Jan 1918 the battalion had been in the front lines at Monchy south east of Arras and had suffered a number of local raids and artillery barrages.
