Frederick is listed as being killed in action on 9 Oct 1917. The 15th Brigade war diary entries for the period 8th to 10th October are transcribed below. Steenbeke, Ypres - In the field - 8.10.17: Work on new position carried on. All available labour was turned in to clearing ammunition at current position. Wood House, Ypres - In the field - 9.10.17: 29th Division attacked the enemy and all objectives were taken. Our FOO's 2/Lts Palethorpe and Howels were killed outside Martins Mill just before zero hour. A very heavy barrage was put down on the Steenbeek at the commencement of the attack. Wood House, Ypres - In the field - 10.10.17: Lt. Col Head DSO assumed command of left group centre artillery and Lt Col Sherbrook withdrew to the Wagon Lines. |
