Harry enlisted at some time between 12 Jan 1907 when service # 10357 was issued and 10 Nov 1908 when # 11115 was issued. Source

Circumstances of Death

Harry is listed as dying on 19th July 1916. An obituary in the Leamington Court (see below) states that Harry died of the effects of heat. The 1st Battalion war diary entries for then period 18th to 20th July are transcribed below and it can be seen that temperatures reached 124f in the shade.

Beit Aieessia - 18 Jul 1916: Battalion still in river Picquet Line, ordinary trench routine being carried out. Hottest day during month, 124f being registered in shade at Divisional HQ. 

Beit Aieessia - 19 Jul 1916: 2/Lt R.S. Steadman rejoined from Field Ambulance.

Beit Aieessia - 20 Jul 1916:One other rank wounded in river picquet line.
