Circumstances of Death

William died of woundson 30 May 1918 at the 3 Canadian Stationary Hospital in Doullens. William was wounded on 22nd March 1918 when a German bomb was dropped on the 46th Casualty Clearing Station at Noyon. The 46th CCS war diary entry for the 22nd March is transcribed below.

Noyon – 22 Mar 1918: ADMS OO 52, OR’s 940, Discharged 486. Deaths OR 10 to Hospital 1299

Col. Moyn Smith visited the IP. Weayhjer foggy in morning, fine remainder of the day.

A bomb was dropped near Officers Packstore about 9.30pm.
