Support Line – 25 Jul 1917: Situation normal. Battalion move up in the evening to take over front line system. Heavy thunderstorm during evening.

Casualties – Other ranks wounded 1

Front Line – 26 Jul 1917: Enemy heavy T.M’s active on our front line. Otherwise nothing to report.

Casualties – nil

Front Line – 27 Jul 1917: At 3.30am gas was projected on to enemy position in Fresnoy Wood which drew a heavy retaliation by artillery & T.M’s on our front line. At 4am oil was projected onto the same enemy positions again bringing forth a vigorous retaliation.

The enemy again shelled our front & support lines heavily between 10am and 11am.

At 10pm a patrol consisting of 2/Lt W.H. Morton and 6 OR’s with a Lewis Gun team went out to reconnoitre the enemy positions. The patrol found the Bosche wire good near the Henin-Lietard Road but weaker to the north. Evidence of the trench being strongly held was obtained. Patrol ultimately withdrew in safety.

Casualties – wounded, other ranks 9

Front Line – 28 Jul 1917: Hostile artillery active at intervals on our front line. Hostile aeroplanes flew low over our positions during the day.

At 10pm a patrol consisting of the same party as on previous night, left our lines to reconnoitre the enemy wire slightly further to the north. Our patrol was fired on by the enemy who was evidently alert & challenged a patrol on our flank. Notwithstanding the patrol carried on & its objective & afterwards withdrew without mishap.

Casualties OR killed 1 & wounded 5, one of whom afterwards died of wounds.

Front Line – 29 Jul 1917: Situation normal. At 9.35pm a similar patrol to that on previous nights left our lines & after confirming previous reconnaissance returned at midnight.
