Circumstances of Death

Charles is listed as being killed in action on 5 Oct 1918. The 330th Brigade war diary entry for that day shows that he was killed while moving between positions and is transcribed below.

Le Bizet – 5th Oct 1918 – Our Infantry situation practically unchanged. We harassed reserve trenches and road behind enemy line throughout the day and night and supported a minor operation of Inf by putting down a barrage on enemy trench systems lifing to a standing bombardment on his reserve lines. APP III

2/Lt C H S Spencer C/330 killed going round front line posts whilst acting as Liaison Officer.
