Circumstances of Death

Alfred is listed as dying of wounds on 30th October 1914 at the No 7 Stationary Hospital, Boulogne. The 35th Brigade war diary shows that they landed at Zeebrugge on 6 October 1914 and arrived in the Ypres area on 14th October 1914 and they remained in that area until Alfred died with the first mention of firing shells coming on the 20th. Unfortunately the diary does not disclose any Men or NCO casualties and therefore we cannot comment on how he was wounded before being evacuated to Boulogne where he died.
