  • 07 Jun 1917 - Awarded a Bar to his Military Medal for remaining under fire laying and maintaining wires during the Attack on Hill 60 (Gazette)
  • 16 Nov 1917 - Awarded the Distinguished Conduct Medal for joined cable during heavy shell fire for 10 hours continuously (Gazette)

Circumstances of Death

George is listed as being killed in action on 21st October 1917 and was buried at Bedford House Cemetery near Ypres. The 23rd Company war diary entries are extremely brief and the period 20th to 22nd October are transcribed below and give no information regarding George's cause of death.
