Circumstances of Death
|
Charles died of acute appendicitis and heart failure at the Bradford War Hospital on 14th January 1916. His death certificate states that he was 20 years of age. His death certificate indicates that he was operated on 6 days after being diagnosed and died within 4 hours of the operation.
However Charles's birth certificate (cross referenced by parents names in Army Pension records) and his CWGC record show that he was only 17 yrs old at the time of his death and therefore only 15 years old when he enlisted and 16 when he arrived in France with the 1st/7th Battalion Royal Warwickshire Regiment.
