Distinguished Service Medal Citation

Bourlon Ridge, 26 November 1917.

'For conspicuous gallantry and devotion to duty. During a hostile counter-attack he rallied the men, and, on the flanks giving way, he held the centre, and was instrumental in stopping the counter-attack by organising fire, which caused heavy casualties to the enemy. His conduct, when in sole charge of the company, throughout the operation, set a splendid example to the men.’ London Gazette 11 February 1918.
