Hedley is listed as being killed in action on 11 Apr 1917. The 15th Brigade war diary states that Gunner Facer was killed by enemy shell fire hitting battery position near Monchy. The 1st/1st Battery war diary entry for the 11th April 1917 is transcribed below. 15th Bde HQ at N.2.b.60.90 - 11.4.1917: Batteries occupied in registering & improving positions. Not a successful day in general. The Cavalry were severely handled in Monchy. About 10pm a counter attack was reported developing against Monchy. Batteries shot on their S.O.S. lines till 11pm when all was reported quiet. Casualties this day – all Warwick R.H.A: Killed: Corpl P Jackson; Bmdr H.E. Rollason, Gnr G Nichols, Gnr H.A. Facer. Slightly wounded and concussion Cpl A.E. Smith. Wounded Bmdr C Eaton, Gnr E.H. Parsons, Gnr R.E. Robinson. Shell shocked 7 men named |
