Circumstances of Death

Frederick is listed as dying of wounds on 6th October 1918 at the 20th Casualty Clearing Station at Doingt. The 8th Battalion war diary entries for the period 4th to 6th October are transcribed below. Please note the 2nd/8th Battalion was disbanded in February 1918 and merged with the 1st/8th and were then sent to Italy at the 8th Battalion. The 8th Battalion returned to France in September 1918. Guinnemont Farm - 4 Oct 1918: OO no 5 ordering the unit to Guinnemont Farm was received and the Battalion marched there and rested for a few hours in the trenches in the vicinity. Lormisett - 5 Oct 1918: At 02.30am battalion marched into the line at Lormisett to support the 74th Inf Bde. Lormisett - 6 Oct 1918: A&C Coys were ordered to support the Sherwood Foresters in the vicinity of Guisancourt Farm and to assist them in the attack on this strong point. B&D Coys moved to support the Yorks Regt at Belleville Farm. The advance of the companies under heavy artillery and MG fire was superb and the G.O.C the 7th Bde complemented Lt Col Whitehouse on the splendid way in which the advance was carried out. |

in his army service records. - After Frederick's death an In Memorium was posted in the Leamington Courier by his mother Jane a "Lily from Cubbington"
