Circumstances Leading to Death (Normally from War Diary)
The war diary states that on 6 Oct 1914 the Battalion left Saintimes for Pont St Mayence, arriving at 3:45am. 300 men and 8 officers left by train and spent the night in a siding at Picquigny. The war diary makes no mention of any casualties and details of Josephs death have not yet been found but he is the only man listed as being killed on that day.
