Circumstances Leading to Death (Normally from War Diary)

The battalion were in the front lines in the area of Pommier Mametz when they were ordered to attack and capture unnamed enemy positions in front of them. The attack failed and the survivors made their way back to the original positions. There were 171 casualties of which George was one. No other details are known.
