John is listed as being killed in action of 2 May 1918, the war diary shows that on that day the Battery was in position at Essart. John is listed by name as one of 6 men killed on the 2 May presumably as a result of counter battery fire. No other details are given, except that the battery fired 1058 rounds between the 1st and 4th May 1918.
