Circumstances of Death
|
Robert is listed as being killed in action on 21 March 1918 the first day of the German Spring Offensive. Labour Company's were not required to keep war diaries. The 175th Coy were part of VII Corps who were in the area of Templeux-la-Fosse when the German army attacked. We have not been able to find any further information but will continue to look. The 175th Company, Labour Corps was formed from the 10th (Labour) Battalion of the Devonshire Regiment, so effectively Robert remained with the men of his old unit, 10th Battalion, Devonshire Regiment. Sourced from the Long Long Trail website. Labour Companies tended to be formed with men aged 35 & over and/or who were no longer physically as the men who served in the front lines. |
