On the day he was killed the Battalion picked up the objectives from the previous day and continued the advance on Gullegem which the battalion achieved albeit after being held up by strong wire defenses which caused some casualties. The village was captured and a large number of civilians were liberated from German occupation. The battalion dug in and consolidated their line allowing the 9th battalion to pass through and continue the advance.
