Charles is listed as being killed in action on 12 Oct 1917. The single and brief entry in the 10th Battalion War diary entry covering the period 12th to 15th states that the battalion were in billets at Elverdinghe when they were bombed by a large formation of enemy aircraft which killing 1 [Charles] and wounding 2 others.
