Circumstances Leading to Death (Normally from War Diary)           

Samuel is listed as being killed in action on 14 May 1915 during the Second Battle of Ypres. The war diary for the 13th & 14th May 1915 is transcribed below.

Trenches - near Bellewaarde Lake - 13.5.1915: 4am German bombardment commenced and went on till evening, shelling the Cavalry to our left N of their trenches. They however retook them but suffered heavily. Generals Plummer and Jolfe wired congratulations. 2 Men killed and 7 men wounded.

Trenches - near Bellewaarde Lake - 14.5.1915: Quiet day. Relieved at night by composite Battn of 4 KRR and P.P.C.L.I [Princess Patricia's Canadian Light Infantry]. Went into Bivouac near Vlamertinghe about 1am. 5 men killed 2 wounded. END
