Circumstances of Death

Thomas is listed as being killed in action on 10th November 1914. The 1st Battalion war diary entries for the period 9th to 11th November are transcribed below, the diary does not contain any details of casualties.

Trenches near Le Touquet – 9 Nov 1914: The daily improvements to trenches and repairs to wire and parapets, rendered necessary by hostile shell fire, were continued. No further aggressive movement was made by the enemy.

Trenches near Le Touquet – 10 Nov 1914: Kings Own relieved us in the evening and we went into billets at Le Bizet leaving two Coys (at night 3 Coys) in support of them at Le Touquet.

Billets in Le Bizet – 11 Nov 1914: Remained in billets all day and at night relieved the Inniskillings in reserve trenches in Ploegsteert Wood.
