Circumstances Leading to Death (Normally from War Diary)

The battalion was ordered to march from Arras to Monchy le Preux and join with the Newfoundland Regiment for an attack on enemy lines there. The attack was successful but the Germans did counter attack. The cost of the attack was very high with casualties of 661 officers and men which was 71% of the total strength of 923 men.
