Circumstances Leading to Death (Normally from War Diary)

The CWGC records state that at the time Arthur was killed on 30 Aug 1916 he was serving with the 11th Bn King's Royal Rifle Corp however the 11th Bn KRRC diary makes no mention of any casuaties, shelling or action, nothing except that  it was a wet day. On closer look at his service record it was found that there is a note dated 22 Jun 1916 which states "attached 11 RB". A look at the war diary for the 11th Bn Rifle Brigade shows that on the 30th Aug 1916 they were in the trenches at Irish Alley near Guillemont when they were heavily shelled and as a result 3 men were killed and another 14 were wounded. It is strongly suspected that Arthur was one of the three men killed.
