George is listed as being killed in action on 29th January 1915. The 4th Battalion war diary entry for the 29th January 1915 is transcribed below. St. Eloi - 29 Jan 1915: The morning passed without event. About 1pm to 2pm the enemy bombarded the section of French trenches adjoining our left with high explosive shells. The[y succeeded in blowing in some 3- - 40 yards of this trench & causing about 24 casualties forced the French to evacuate this part of the line. At dark the French immediately reoccupied this part and started to put it into a state of defense. Towards midnight heavy firing (gun & rifle) was heard in the Trois Rois section but it died down in about a quarter of an hour. 2/Lt L.H.S.A. King was very slightly wounded in the forearm during in his trench. Casualties: 4 killed – 1 officer & 3 wounded.
