Circumstances of Death

John is listed as being killed at sea aboard the Steam Trawler Fittonia when she struck a German mine off the mouth of the River Humber, approximately 27 nautical miles East by South of Spurn Head. There were no survivors among the 7 man crew for which John was the Ships Cook.

The Fittonia is one of a number of WW1 shipwrecks known to be near the River Humber.
