Harry is listed as being killed in action on 9 May 1915. The 4th Battalion war diary entry for that day is transcribed below. 9-5-15. Trenches 3am: Heavy artillery bombardment following by German attack from right to left of Bellewarde Lake. Fairly strong against our left but half hearted on our right. Commenced again in evening but came to nothing. Draft of 108 arrived, Capt Collins taken off transport to command B Coy. Lt Pelham Burr went sick, Lt Blinell? slightly wounded & sent back. Casualties: 9 men killed, 30 wounded and 18 missing. |
