Leonard is listed as dying of his wounds on 29 Jun 1916. The 2nd Battalion war diary records that he was badly wounded at midnight on 23rd July 1916 by a German bomb [hand grenade] while is was part of a covering party in of the trenches at La Gorgue. The covering party was protecting a working party when enemy troops threw a bomb (grenade) into the crater Leonard was in which also wounded 1 other rank. Leonard died 6 days later in No 7 General Hospital, St. Omer. |
