Circumstances Leading to Death (Normally from War Diary)           

The battalion took part in an attack by the 59th Division and in particular in support of 177th Brigade on enemy lines near Pommern Castle Farm which is midway between St Julien to the NW and Zonnebeke to the SE. All the objectives were gained and the attack was succesful. Later in the day a counter attack by German forces was broken up and repulsed. Edward died at some stage during these actions.
