Circumstances Leading to Death (Normally from War Diary)
On the day that Harry is listed as dying the battalion were in the trenches at Les Boeufs facing north towards Le Transloy. At some stage during the day the battalion were relieved in the lines by 12th Bn King's Royal Rifle Brigade and then proceeded to Carnoy for four days rest. No enemy actions nor casualties are mentioned and there is no mention made in the Daily Casualty Report attached to the War Diary. Therefore we cannot say with any accuracy how he died but most likely it was during the relief operation which were often fatal events.
At enlistment in 1914 Harry declared that he was 19 years old but he was born in 1896 and so was only 16 when he enlisted and 19 when he died.
