Circumstances Leading to Death (Normally from War Diary)
July 30th 1916 - On the day he was killed George and his battalion were ordered to capture Guillemont Station but by the time 4.45am Zero Hour arrived it was daylight and much too late. The attack by B and C Companies on Guillemont Station failed after repeated attempts, and so did the other attack by A and D companies towards Ginchy. There were 12 officer casualties, and more than 200 amongst the other ranks. We naturally had no rest for the remainder of the day, and a disturbed night. See more at LightBobs O&BLI History website
