Circumstances Leading to Death (Normally from War Diary)
The war diary for the day shows that the battalion was near Arras and that between the 1st and 7th May 1916 they were engaged in working parties. Charles was the only casualty during that time and the war diarty entry for the day he is listed as being killed, 5 May 1916, briefly states "Work - 1 OR killed" so we don't know exactly how Charles was killed.| Personal & Family History |

We have not yet made any connections to Moreton Morrell, what we do know is
- he enlisted in Rugby rather than Leicestershire, possibly because he was working nearby.
- he enlisted with Corporal 10669 Arthur Sturman into the 5th Bn O&BLI on the same day in Rugby. Arthur was a footman at Moreton Hall.
- he worked as a Groom/Footman and so may have worked in on the the large houses in Moreton Morrell,
- there is the only one Charles Lyner who died who in WW1 (CWGC)
- there is only one Charles Lyner who was born in England or Wales since 1844 registered on FreeBMD
