Circumstances Leading to Death (Normally from War Diary)
The war diary for the day shows that the battalion was near Arras and that between the 1st and 7th May 1916 they were engaged in working parties. Charles was the only casualty during that time and the war diarty entry for the day he is listed as being killed, 5 May 1916, briefly states "Work - 1 OR killed" so we don't know exactly how Charles was killed.
